Already, there’s an almost tangible sense of merriment in the air as Overstranders, their families and visitors from far and wide gather to celebrate Christmas and welcome 2026 here under the Southern Cross.
Many have been looking forward to spending some quality time with family and friends, to while the time away simply basking in the sun and to leisurely explore our beautiful coastline.
My sincere wish is that you and yours will enjoy a splendid holiday with many joyous moments and lots of good memories.
Since things tend to get rather hectic this time of the year, please don’t let your guard down: Be alert, be safe, and don’t drink and drive. Always use water wisely, don’t litter and, remember, fireworks are strictly forbidden.
My greatest wish, though, is that no matter who we are or where we hail from, we will unite as a community that cares about our fellow-man.
In the true spirit of Christmas, let’s show a little goodwill where ever we go: A smile, a kind word, a bit of respect and even a mere “thank you” can make all the difference.
Spread the joyful message of Christmas by brightening up the lives of those around you: Be courteous and considerate. It costs nothing.
On behalf of Overstrand Municipality, I wish you a peaceful, blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.
– Overstrand Executive Mayor, Alderman Archie Klaas
